Metal Industries Negotiations DEADLOCKED

NUMSA has registered a deadlock in the metal and engineering industry wage negotiations today.

NUMSA, but not the other negotiating unions, have rejected SEIFSA’s proposal of 4.4% increase based on CPIX, and an industry graduated catch up to minimum wage.

NUMSA’s initial proposal was 15% across the board wage increase, as well as additional proposals for increased shift allowance COVID related compensation and payment, paternity leave, family responsibility leave, annual leave, retrenchment severance pay, retirement ex gratia payment, travel allowances, underground allowances, provident fund, shareholding in companies and a disaster fund.
