Compassion, Care, Professionalism

Counselling is an effective way to give people the skills to cope with the difficulties of modern living and the workplace.  Employees are often under stress from actual traumatic events, possibly outside the workplace, from work-related or personal problems, and from the generally stressful environment we live in.  This stress will have a negative effect on employee’ performance at work and more and more companies are providing professional counselling to improve productivity, particularly for key staff.

Brentwood’s workplace counselling is an employee support intervention provided by specialist, trained, experienced and registered counsellors.

The counselling process is about providing a sounding board for an employee, giving them a safe place to talk about issues that trouble them, and allowing counsellors to help them find their own solutions to problems or develop better ways to manage issues. It is not about giving advice, but about providing a non-judgmental, empathic and accessible means to allow an employee to find a way forward.

Brentwood’s counsellors have a specialist viewpoint and skillset, as they essentially have two clients – the employee in front of them and the organisation, as a peripheral client. Our counsellors are mindful of the context in which the employees work and have a crucial understanding of the environment to which the employees will be returning.

Typically, our counsellors deal with

  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Marriage and family counselling
  • Trauma
  • Depression
  • Stress and Post Traumatic Stress
  • Anger Management
  • Illness, chronic illness, HIV and Aids
  • Rape and sexual abuse
  • Family abuse
  • Grief

Our registered and trained counsellors are in a position to develop the positive and confidential relationship required for effective counselling.

Our on-site service includes the dedication of a number of hours per week, open to the employees of the client, and if the client wishes, the family of the employees.

More applicable to the workplace, the counsellors can provide assistance in the event of change management, retrenchments, closures and harassment.

All Brentwood Counsellors are registered with the Council for Counsellors South Africa.

We also provide sensitivity training on all aspects above, for more information contact us on training@brentwood.co.za
