TERS and workers affected by July’s unrest

Employers can apply for their employees affected by unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu in July this year, but only if the business was recently closed directly due to destruction, damage or looting of the workplace.

Applications opened on 25 August 2021 and can be made on the TERS portal: https://uifecc.labour.gov.za/covid19/

You will be required to provide details of the reasons behind the closure of your workplace, including:

- documentary proof of your submission of a report to the South African Police Services (SAPS), as well as proof that a case has been opened;

- the case number; and

- if applicable, proof of your submission and acknowledgement of an insurance claim.

- Confirmation of your acceptance of the scheme and submit any further information required by the UIF commissioner.

Payments of the benefit will be de-linked from UIF benefits, so will not use up any of your employees’ earned UIF benefit.

Payment will be  flat rate if R3 500 per employee, and paid directly into the account of the employee.
