The parties to the 2024 industry negotiations have begun to table their demands for this year’s negotiations.

MEWUSA:
- 12 % across-the-board increase on the actual wage in all categories or grades;
- Doing away with Grade H, but not downgrading Grade G;
- A 3 year agreement should be on status quo;

Don’t throw away the breathalysers.

The Labour Court ruled that a blood test is a more reliable test than breathalyser to detect alcohol and reinstated an employee who tested positive for alcohol in three breathalyser tests, but when he went for his own blood test, tested negative.  He was reinstated retrospectively back to his dismissal in 2019. SAFTU joins EFF to shut the country down on 20 March 2023.

The South African Federation of Trade Unions has joined the EFF’s planned shutdown 20 March 2023.  SAFTU may, under the Labour Relations Act undertake protected protest action to promote the social and economic interests of workers.  NEDLAC has confirmed that the planned protest has met the requirements of the Labour Relations Act, and is therefore protected by the LRA.
