8.5% increase in the 2024 National Minimum Wage.

From 1st March 2024 the minimum wage will be R27.58 per hour. Currently the minimum wage is R25.42 per hour.

An employee working 45 hours per week will have a weekly wage of R1 241 per week.

The new hourly minimum wage is an increase of 8.5% on the current minimum wage of R25.42 per hour. The increase is 2.5% above the average rate of inflation, which was 6% in 2023.

The only group not earning the minimum wage are those employed in an expanded public works programme. Their minimum hourly rate will be R15.16 per hour, which is also an increase of 8.5%.

There is a procedure that allows employers to apply for exemption from the Minimum Wage.
