TERS extended again, but paid directly to employees

The Temporary Employer-Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) has been extended once again for certain affected employees because of the adjusted Level 4.

The new claim period is from 16 March 2021 to 25 July 2021.

Applications opened on 19 July 2021 and payments are due to commence from 26 July 2021.

New payment arrangements:
It is still employers that need to apply for the benefit, but payment is made directly to the employees, rather than to the employers, as it has in the past.  The application process and the information or documents required are the same as with the previous extensions.

Eligible employees:
- Employees working at venues that host auctions, professional sports, social events, concerts and live performances, and which were not permitted to commence operations from 16 March 2021 to 25 July 2021 due to Level 1, 2 and 3 restrictions preventing gatherings of a certain number of people. UIF can, at its own discretion, include the value chains of these venues.

- Employees in certain sectors who were and or are still impacted by the Adjusted Level 4 restrictions which commenced on 28 June 2021: restaurants, the liquor industry, hospitality, tourism, cinemas, theatres, casinos, museums, galleries, libraries, archives, gyms, night clubs, swimming pools, bars, taverns, shebeens, public parks, domestic and international air travel, rail, bus and taxi services, e-hailing services, beaches, dams, rivers and lakes, passenger ships, conferencing,  international sports, arts and cultural events, as well as industries and business establishments that form part of these value chains.

- Vulnerable employees who have not been able to be accommodated or work during the period.

- Employees from the sectors above who were not working, either fully or partially, due to operational requirements; and

- Any employees who have had to isolate or go into quarantine.
