The Employment Equity Amendment Act will not come through this year.

It will, however, come into operation on 01 September 2023.

The amendment bill has not yet been signed, but the Department of Employment and Labour believes that the President will sign it into law soon. [Read More…]

24 August 2022: SAFTU and COSATU’s national protest action has already begun.

The protest action has made its way through the Labour Relations Act processes via Nedlac and is a protected action, which means:

- Employees can’t be disciplined or dismissed for taking part in the protest.

It also means:

- No work, no pay for those who do participate. 

If somebody is not at work today, they can be assumed to be part of the protests and therefore not paid. 

Doctor’s certificate: If doctors’ notes are provided for the day, as the employer you are entitled to check the validity of the note before payment is made. [Read More…]
